Summary: The Kelowna United Boys U15A team closed out the season on a positive note with a Silver Medal at this weekend’s Rutland Canada Tournament. This year’s U15A team has spent most of the year competing at the U16 level and this weekend was no different. The team closed out the regular season play 3rd in the TOYSA U16B six team Boys division and lost a heart breaker 3-2 to Shuswap in Play downs.
This weekend the boys opened up the tournament with a 4-2 victory over the local Rutland U16-15 Boys Onside restoration Team. The teams were tied 2-2 at the half, KU came out strong in the second half and there season long conditioning prevailed in closing out the game with a 4-2 victory. It was a fun game for both sides as a few old team mates were able to play against each other. KU goals came from Braden Peters, Dhaamin Clarke, Dylan Higgott & Tanveer Bhandher(Game MVP).
The second game saw Ku take on the visiting Edmonton Drillers U16 team. It was a hard fought battle with Sam Bowers scoring a long range ball in the second half to earn Kelowna it’s second victory of the tournament. Ayden Basher was solid in earning the shutout. Dhaamin Clarke Game MVP
The third game pitted KU against Calgary’s North Star U16 team. The two teams exchanged goals with the first half ending in a 1-1 draw. The KU goal coming from Braden Peters. The second half was hard fought, however Calgary was able to score 2 in the second half and Kelowna only one by Dylan Higgott. Calgary 3 – Kelowna 2 Game. Game MVP – Keeper Ayden Basher
This pitted the two teams against each other again in the afternoon for the battle for Gold and Silver. Again the two teams were evenly matched both with excellent chances early in the game. Calgary scored in the first half on a cross. The ball was bouncing around like a pinball with Basher making two brilliant saves, however Kelowna could not clear the ball and it eventually ended up in the net. The second half was much the same and Calgary was able to get a second goal on much the same type of play. Ayden Basher again had a great game. The game end 2-0 for the visitors and the Kelowna United U15A Boys came away with a U16 division Silver medal. Game MVP-Charlie Tucker, Sam Bowers was voted Kelowna United team MVP for the tournament. This year’s KU15A team members were Goal Keeper Ayden Basher, Alex Beutle, Charlie Tucker, Chris Pires, Hayden Ward, Sam Bower, Braden Peters, Jesse Nanci, Alex Stavrou, Riley Carlson, Tanveer Bhandher, Taylor Milsom, Spencer Loyd, Dhaamin Clarke, Alex Josipovic, Alex De Foy, and Dylan Higgott.
Congratulations on a Great Year!
