KU Boys U14 B

On a cold and blustery afternoon in the Lake Country, Kelowna United kicked off their 2010 campaign with a tough fixture against familiar opposition, Vernon United. The teams had met a month previous and Kelowna were determined to improve on the 1-0 defeat that their local rivals inflicted on them last time.

The first half was a scrappy affair with a bumpy pitch not really helping either team to play good soccer. Harrison and Jonah battled hard in the midfield but chances in the game were few and far between.
In the second half, despite injuries to the key defensive duo of Brett and Steven, Kelowna started to dominate the game. Phillip and Nick managed to get into the game more, with chances starting to add up for the home team. Dylan and David sent shots whistling past the post, while crucial last minute tackles kept others at bay. Kelowna’s defence once again looked tight, with Vernon offering very little threat to Curtis’s net. As Kelowna continued to pile on the pressure, Vernon seemed the more pleased of the two teams to hear the final whistle as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

In summary, on a difficult playing surface and with several injured players, the 0-0 score line was a pleasing result and a good start to the season for the team.

Match ratings

***Harrison -Excellent work in midfield and very assured when asked to play in defence.
**Reid -Solid all round display in defence again.
*Nick -Good wing play and unlucky not to get at least one assist.
