Team Division: U-14 Boys (Exhibition)

Final Score: Kelowna United U14 A - Prince George U-14 Boys 10 - 0 (7 - 0)

In the first of two exhibition games against visiting Prince George teams, Kelowna United U 14 ‘A’ Boys came away with a convincing 10-0 win over the Prince George U 14 Boys. An early goal resulted after a run up the left side by midfielders Dom Haynes and Liam Duncan. Duncan crossed the ball into the centre where forward Stefan Obradovic passed back to Haynes, who put it past the Prince George keeper. Forward Tyler Shalansky was relentless in pursuing the goalkeeper, causing the keeper to bobble the ball and giving Kelowna a 2-0 lead with a decisive hard shot over the goalie’s head. Duncan stopped the opponent's clearing pass and connected with a high volley shot for their third goal. The fourth goal came off the foot of Haynes from a sharp angle and past the outstretched hands of Prince George's goalie. Duncan made good on a free kick just outside the 18 yard box to make it 5-0. Forward Josh Ugyan scored the sixth goal after receiving a precision pass from Obradovic inside the 18 yard box. Obradovic maintained the offensive pressure with a beautiful header goal on a left corner cross from defender David Denton. Duncan took a rebound off the crossbar and put it in the back of the net for goal number eight. Midfielder Ayo Fashanu made a run down the left side to the corner post where his pass just outside the goal mouth, yielded Obradovic’s second goal of the game. The tenth and final goal was something of a rocket that came off the foot of Denton. Game Dates: April 25, 2010
Location: Kelowna, BC

Final Score: Kelowna United U14 A - Prince George U-15 Boys 3 - 2 (2 - 1)

Game 2 pitted the KU U 14 ‘A’ Boys against an older U-15 team from Prince George. KU came out cautious early in the game with the play mostly in the Kelowna end until midfielder Ayo Fashanu worked the ball into the Prince George’s half. Fashanu made a forward pass on to Stefan Obradovic who beat the goalie and made a quick pass to the left where a waiting Liam Duncan found the back of the net. Getting the first goal seemed to build confidence in the team and the momentum changed with KU coming out stronger on the offensive. KU’s second goal of the game came from a long cross by Dom Haynes into the box where forward Tyler Shalansky quickly headed ball and Fashanu finished with a volley into the net. Seconds before the half ended, Prince George connected on a free kick to narrow the gap to 2-1. A mishap in the goal mouth resulted in Prince George tying the score at 2-2 early in the second half. Rather than give up, Kelowna went on the offensive again. Defender Kurtis Knuth directed a throw-in to a waiting Obradovic who fooled the Prince George defence with his quick footwork and put a low hard shot under the diving Prince George keeper. The defensive wall of Knuth, Ayden Ledding, Walker Shanks and Joe Overton kept the lead in tact until the final whistle. Solid efforts were also put in by midfielders Tomas Pesl, Matthew Droguett, and Matthew Fielding and goal keeper David Denton.

KU Boys U14 B

Kelowna United U 14 B - Prince George U 14 1 - 0 (0 - 0)
Goal, Tristin Croteau (63)

Following last weeks defeat, Kelowna United were determined to turn things around in their exhibition game against Prince George. With several key players missing, it was a chance for some of the other players to show what they could do.

The first half was fairly scrappy getting with many players taking time to get used to their new roles. Sweeney and Hagen battled well midfield and managed to spread the ball into the wide areas, although the final ball was often lacking. The defence looked solid once again, with Prince George only really threatening on the counter-attack.

The second half saw a marked improvement for the whole team, with much better passing and movement from all the players. Wagner came close to breaking the deadlock as he latched onto an excellent through ball from Schrod, but his shot just went over the crossbar. Minutes later, following excellent wing play from Morel, the ball came to Croteau, who finished expertly from close range. At 1-0, Kelowna started to dominate the game, and came close to doubling the lead when Sweeney hit the crossbar with a rasping 20 yard drive. The game ended 1-0, although it could have been much worse for Prince George.

In summary, particularly with the absence of several players, this was a very performance from Kelowna. We would like to say thank you to the extra players for coming in and doing such a good job for the team.

The KU U15-A Boys played a hard fought game on Sunday but came up short in a 2-1 loss to the KU-16 B team. Both teams played well that saw some good chances at both ends of the field. The KU 16’s scored first on a shot from the left side of the box that just beat goalie Ayden Basher on the far side. The U15’s answered back to tie when Spencer Loyd put a ball up the middle to Alex Josipovic who charged his way through two defenders and beat a sprawling keeper. The u15’s came close to taking the lead when a hard shot from Riley Carlson went off the top bar and apparently bounce on the line and out, No Goal. The half ended 1-1. The 16’s struck early in the second half when they put a ball through on a break that the U15 defenders could not track down resulting in the go ahead goal. The 15’s again had a number of excellent chances but could not tie it up ending in a 2-1 victory of the 16’s. The u15’s back field of Dylan Higgott, Chris Pires, Alex Beutle, Hayden Ward, Sam Bowers & Charlie Tucker played well as did the mid-field made up of Alex De Foy, Alex Stavrou, Jess Nanci, Tanveer Bhandher, Dhaamin Clarke & Loyd. The forwards Carlson, Josipovic, Jayden Rutkowski, and Braden Peters applied good pressure on the u16’s defenders.
