Game 1
Kelowna Team 1 vs. Kamloops White 2-3

Kelowna scored quickly in the second half, this time Corbin centred the ball and Jeremy was able to kick it in after a dramatic bounce off the cross bar. KU Boys U 14 A
Date: May 15, 2010 Opponent: Shuswap U15 Boys Result: Shuswap (2) - KU (1)
Goal scorers: KU Walker Shanks (11) :
1st Half:
Kelowna United U 14 'A' boys took to the pitch against an older, bigger, U 15 Shuswap team this past weekend. Despite the size difference, the U 14 boys matched their opponent physically, but came up just short, falling by a score of 2-1. Kelowna opened the scoring early on a well-placed corner kick by midfielder Dom Haynes that found forward Stefan Obradovic in the box and was eventually put away by defender Walker Shanks. The U 14 boys goalkeeper, Curtis Bailey, was tested several times with corner kicks by Shuswap but denied all attempts. Shuswap did eventually connect to tie the game on a breakaway. Near the end of the first half, Kelowna just missed going ahead when midfielder Matthew VanDenHeuvel beat the Shuswap keeper but hit the crossbar.
2nd Half:
In the second half, forwards Obradovic, Liam Duncan and Tyler Shalansky tested the much larger Shuswap defenders but couldn't find the back of the net. Meanwhile, Kelowna's defensive line put up a wall limiting Shuswap to few chances at goal. But late in the half, a scramble near the Kelowna goal resulted in a Shuswap tally which turned out to be the last of the match. Kelowna defenders Shanks, Ayden Ledding, Joe Overton, Kurtis Knuth and Matt Droguett played strong throughout the game. Rounding out the solid effort were midfielders Tomas Pesl, Matt Fielding, VanDenHeuvel and Haynes.
KU Girls U15 A
The Kelowna United U15A girls team travelled to Coeur d’Alene Idaho this past weekend to take part in the annual Hot Shot soccer tournament. In their first game Friday evening United fell 2-0 to the host Coeur d’Alene Sting. Despite dominating ball possession throughout the game, United failed to finish. The extremely small field and effects of the long drive contributed to the result.
United responded with much stronger efforts in their second game and third games to defeat Newport Washington and Glacier Montana by identical 2-0 scores. Against Newport, Haylee Lackovic scored both goals while Ana Biagi recorded the shut out. Haleigh Penner set the tone earlier with several strong runs and near misses.
In the third game, Elisa Joyce and Haley Loudoun scored to lead the way, while Ana Biagi recorded the shut out. All team members are recognized for their outstanding play. They are Megan Witala, Devon Weaden, Jamie Park, Adele Joyce, Kailey Nicholl, Kaileigh Mapson, Chrissy MacDonald, Kira Lee, Olivia Johnson, Laina Burton
KU Girls U15 B
KU vs Vernon 0-0
Kelowna came out strong and created some early chances against a big strong Vernon defence. Natasha Remez almost scored twice. The opposition was held in check and when they did break through the back line led by Leaghan Penkala and Morgan Jeffries handled them with ease. Vernon came out stronger in the second half pressing but when called upon Hanna Caldwell was her normal unbeatable self. Late in the game Kelowna had chances to take all of the points with both Meagan Johansen and Katarina Bergg coming close. In the end they had to settle for a 0-0 tie.

KU PCSL Girls U21
KU PSCL U-21 Women's team started their season with an away game against Semiahmoo SC. KU dominated during the first half of the game and their 1-0 lead was deserved. Carli Tingstad (Vernon) scored the season's first goal after great hassling from winger Kenzie Byrnes (Westside).
Semiahmoo tied the game early in the second half after sloppy passing in the midfield from Kelowna, which eventually allowed a great long range shot in the upper corner without any chance for KU goalkeeper Zoe Walter (Kamloops). The rest of the half was a rather scrappy game with lots of missed passes and a slight advantage for an aggressive Semiahmoo team."
"On Sunday a hungry Kelowna United team played a strong Langley FC team at the Langley Event Facility Park. The game had barely started before a long ball found its way to a Langley striker whose clean finish off the breakaway found the back of the net. The rest of the half saw more possession for a well-balanced Langley team, but Kelowna had the better scoring opportunities. Three good efforts whistled inches past the post of the Langley goal.
The second half showed an inspired and determined Kelowna team fighting hard for each ball and successfully putting more pressure on the Langley defense. Therefore another long range shot after yet another Kelowna passing error led to a surprising 2-0 goal for Langley. Shortly after this goal, Kelowna found its way back in the game through a score from a loose ball from Paige Doherty (Vernon). This was the start of a goal rally, which saw yet another fantastic long range shot finding its way back in the Kelowna net.
A few minutes later, 2nd half substitutes Bailey d'Amato (Westside) and Brittany Loney (Kelowna) combined for a great goal off a d'Amato header. 2-3 and the last 8 minutes showed a furious away team giving their all for an equalizer, while Langley defended and counter attacked well, until hard-working Jessica Burma won a tackle just outside the Langley penalty box and played the ball in front of the net where Paige Doherty connected for her second goal on the afternoon. 3-3 and only minutes later the referee called the game after this entertaining second half encounter."
Overall, Coach Jan Prochazka is happy with his team and their never-give-up attitude, but feels there is plenty of things to work on before Kelowna United will be at its best. The entire team will be complemented on their second half performance vs. Langley and individually captain Pernilla Erikson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Taylor Ink (Westside) deserves credit for their weekend performances.
