Managers

Team managers are the unsung heroes who do the grunt work (and the paperwork) that help make our teams the success they are. The following duties are the responsibility of the team manager and/or team designates:

Administrative

  • Preparing a team roster and declaring the team to Kelowna United
  • Collecting player forms including registration, medical and code of conduct
  • Creating picture ID Cards for players
  • Ordering and distributing uniforms and equipment
  • Registering in tournaments - how many and when?
  • Arranging out-of-town accommodation
  • Arranging year-end party

Financial

  • Collecting registration fees
  • Opening a team bank account, paying team expenses and maintaining an accurate record

Training & Games

  • Creating a training schedule (in conjunction with coaches)
  • Booking practice/training sessions and facilities
  • Booking referees for exhibition games (TOYSL handles league games)
  • Preparing game sheets for league games
  • Appointing a volunteer to transport team equipment including nets, balls, the tent and bench (if you have them)
  • Creating and/or stocking a first add kit including ice packs

Communication

  • Acting as the intermediary between the coaching staff and team parents, using email and phone calls to keep in contact with players and parents
  • Providing game results and story ideas to the KU Communications Manager for inclusion in the KU Section of the Capital News

Practical Advice
At the first of the year, plan a parent meeting and have the coach go over the year's objective for training, tournaments, etc.

Appoint the following as soon as practical and remember. I you don't get people to help, the job is yours!

  • Treasurer - create team budget, write cheques, and account for league fees, team revenues and expenditures
  • Fundraising Committee - determine financial objective (from team budget), evaluate fundraising opportunities, organize fundraising event(s)
  • Tournament Coordinator - evaluate tournaments, send entries and book accommodation
  • Uniform Manager - place order and distribute uniforms
  • Equipment Manager - arrange for balls, net, tent, chairs/bench, first aid, ice packs, etc. Bring tent, bench etc to each game, set up net if necessary.
